With your support, we've impacted over 17,000 children in need with safe drinking water.
MISSION
Our mission with the Global Jersey Exchange is to contribute to UN Sustainable Development Goal #6: Clean Water and Sanitation for all. In many rural communities in East Africa, schools rely on borehole water which is not safe to drink and causes water-borne illnesses that are a leading cause of childhood mortality globally. Through our partnership with Impact Water, we're investing in water purification technology and safe water solutions within these communities.FUNDRAISING TO-DATE
Through 70 pro athlete jersey auctions in 2018-19, we've raised a total of $14,413.02 to fund the installation, delivery, and maintenance of new water purification systems for seventeen low-income schools in Kenya in need of a safe drinking water supply. Installation photos and GPS coordinates of the schools we are supporting are listed below. Read more about the water purification technology and a list of all previous athlete jersey auctions at the bottom of this report.
LONG-TERM SOLUTIONS
Underdogs United and Impact Water are committed to long-term safe water access, so we've built each school partnership to include 4 years of replacement cartridges and maintenance support. Local technicians are trained and available to repair the system, and we are collaborating with local organizations and government on the ground to ensure the system is maintained beyond four years. ABOUT THE TECHNOLOGY
We use Aquatabs Flo point-of-use treatment technology to purify contaminated water. The Aquatabs Flo water purification systems are manufactured in Ireland by Menentech, the world's #1 water purification tablet and used in over 60 countries since 1984.
The systems are activated by the flow of water, requiring no power. Each system treats up to 180,000 liters of water and is automatically regulated to maintain a 0.5 parts per million (PPM) chlorine level. The systems control biofilm buildup automatically and include a stop value to make sure that the tank will not output water if the PPM reads too low or too high. This level ensures that bacteria and viruses are killed, but the chlorine level is well within the range for safe drinking water.
